American people are touched in many ways by the department. They have a wide range of responsibilities in the areas of trade, economic development, technology, entrepreneurship and business development, environmental stewardship, and statistical research and analysis. New markets for U.S. goods and services are opened up to work to strengthen the international economic position of the United States. The Commerce Department is focused on making U.S. companies more innovative at home and more competitive abroad so that they can create more jobs for people.
